Awoo Doll

12 Apr

I am so proud of my Key Club!

We recently completed another successful project, which was  comparatively small-scale but also fun. Basically, we made dolls and sold them for 10000 won for the children in Haiti. About three weeks ago, our Key Club met on Monday after school to work on it.

My friend, Jane, who made three fabulous dolls, was already a master of Awoo doll-making. Here are the steps she listed:

1. Cut out the person on the paper following the dark lines.

2. Take some cloth (skin) and trace the person twice.

3. Cut out the person on the cloth.

4. On the paper you will see Point A & Point B do not sew these two places.

5. Sew all around 7mm into your doll (if you don’t know how to ask someone around you).

6. These stitches must be tight. especially around the places that are cut in like the under arm and the shoe and places like that.

7. When you are done, cut into the places like the under arm where its like slightly in an angle; cut only a little do not cut what you have sewn. Now you will flip the doll inside out.

8. Remember to straighten out all the places (you might need a ruler for this).

9. Now, you will stuff the doll with the cotton given to you.

10. After its all full take the open sides and sew those together.

11. Now you will put on hair/eyes/mouth/nose/clothing and anything you want.

12. Make a name and everything and put it in on the little piece of paper given to you.

Whoo! Party’s on!
Since it was pajama day, everybody was dressed in their sleepwear, and watched the movie Bruce Almighty to match the theme. People even ordered Chinese food and pizza – it was indeed a great way to spend the day.

Here’s me, with absolutely no clue whatsoever on how to make a doll. My grandmotherly sister offered to help because she actually makes them as a hobby!

This doll is one of my personal favorites. Clemens made a hippie doll, or The Dork Night doll, to match his outfit. My sister ended up making a strapless dress with leftover cloth for this poor doll. 🙂

Look at our awesome dolls! I’m so glad that everybody was so eager to participate. We had almost thirty dolls and sold every single one of them at the PTO International Bazaar. (Ms. Longbotham even bought my doll, well, the doll that my sister practically made for me – yay!) Thank you Key Club members!
